What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a distinct branch of the healing professions. Chiropractors are doctors who are able to evaluate and diagnose patients based upon a broad spectrum of symptoms much the same as other physicians. They perform detailed histories, physical examinations, laboratory diagnostics, and ancillary testing. Special attention is paid to the physiological and biomechanical aspects of the spine, musculoskeletal, neurological, vascular, nutritional and environmental systems.

The principle behind chiropractic is treating dysfunctions in the spine commonly called “subluxations” or “joint fixations”. A subluxation is a misalignment of one or more spinal vertebrae wich interferes with the spinal cord and/or spinal nerves. The purpose of the nervous system is to control and coordinate the function of every system, organ, tissue and cell in the body, thus maintaining a 100% state of health and well-being.

The nervous system is responsible for sending messages to and from your brain, and it is very important to keep these lines of communication open and flowing. A subluxation can alter or prevent the flow of impulses from the brain to the rest of your body. Over a period of time, vertebral subluxation can cause "disease" or lack of health because it prevents your body and its various systems (nervous, respiratory, circulatory, digestive, immune, etc.) from performing at their highest potential.

In order to correct vertebral subluxations that may be causing neurological interference, chiropractors deliver a safe, gentle and specific force known as a chiropractic adjustment. Different techniques may be used for an adjustment depending on the chiropractor's preference and the needs of the patient.

The purpose of an adjustment is simple. If nerve impulses are obstructed to vital organs and glands, they begin to function improperly. An adjustment, in physiologic terms, removes the blockage of nerve impulses caused by subluxation or other stresses to allow the body to function naturally.

Chiropractic holds a unique place in modern health care. It draws upon modern scientific knowledge and techniques as well as utilizing the ancient concepts of self-healing, life energy and natural healing.

Chiropractic teaches us that the best way to improve our health is by removing the elements that interfere with normal body function. Along with vertebral subluxations these include drugs, unnatural or damaging childbirth practices, unnatural foods, pollution, chemicals, excess tension and other forms of emotional distress.

So if you're tired of being sick and tired of being told "you've just got to learn to live with it," and are looking for a natural method of regaining health and wholeness without polluting your body with chemicals, why not join the millions who have discovered the wonders of chiropractic?
